Web-based technologies present an attractive approach to help job seekers who may not otherwise receive assistance, or even to replace more costly in-person career guidance that is a common feature of employment support programs. However, the efficacy of online career tools has not been well documented. In fact, most evaluations of computer-assisted programs were carried out before the Internet became an important tool in the job search process. The Social Research and Demonstration Corporations CareerMotion project represents the first rigorous test of the effectiveness of making labour market information available within an online environment.
